The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center participated in the 16th meeting of the heads of national statistical offices of the BRICS group, which was recently held in Kazan, Russia, as part of the activities accompanying the BRICS Leaders Summit, in the UAE’s first participation as a member of the group. The meetings of the heads of national statistical offices of the BRICS group represented an effective platform for decision-makers and global experts in the fields of statistics and big data, to exchange knowledge, explore opportunities for cooperation and partnerships, learn about the most prominent scientific and innovative technologies related to statistical work, and implement fruitful projects and initiatives to support the continuous assessment of evolving needs worldwide. Her Excellency Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center, stressed that participating in this important event represents an opportunity to build bridges of communication and effective partnerships with the national statistical offices of the BRICS group, and to enhance the construction of global and innovative statistical systems to employ data and rely on reliable, high-quality statistics, and to highlight the UAE's pioneering model in digital transformation and the application of advanced technological solutions to achieve statistical excellence to serve development programs, support future needs and address global challenges. She pointed out the commitment of the state and its statistical community to continuously improve the quality of national statistics by employing new tools and modern methods to ensure the publication of reliable data for the unified UAE number through statistical systems that are efficient, adaptable and flexible in the face of changes while maintaining the highest standards of integrity. She expressed her aspiration to build effective partnerships with the national statistical offices of the BRICS group, as the UAE's membership in the United Nations Statistical Commission for the period 2025-2028 approaches, to develop statistical communities, build capacities and competencies, and exchange expertise in the fields of statistical governance and the use of big data and data science in the production of official statistics. During the meeting, the issuance of the "BRICS Joint Statistical Report 2024" was announced, which was prepared by representatives of the national statistical offices of the group's countries, and includes the most important economic and social statistics and indicators for member states, such as gross domestic product, inflation, consumer price indices, population, employment and unemployment indicators, and others. In a related context, the UAE delegation held bilateral meetings with His Excellency Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary General of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation in the Republic of India, and His Excellency Mao Shengyong, Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, to discuss the development of statistical systems, ways to enhance the role of statistics and data in anticipating the future at the level of vital sectors, and employing alternative technology and artificial intelligence tools in collecting and analyzing comprehensive data to support decision-making and strategic planning processes.
