UAE parliamentary delegation to attend 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), will lead the UAE Parliamentary Division’s delegation participating in the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 214th session of the IPU Governing Council, to be held at the IPU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13th to 17th October. The meetings will gather around 700 parliamentarians and will address the theme “Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future.” Ghobash will also attend the 37th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to take place on 15th October 2024 at the Geneva International Conference Centre, with the participation of the heads of Arab parliaments who are members of the union. The conference will discuss recent regional developments in Palestine and Lebanon. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Arab Group’s representative in the IPU, will take part in the IPU Executive Committee and Financial Committee meetings on 11th and 12th October. These meetings will focus on approving the IPU’s budget and proposed amendments to its statutes. The General Assembly will review requests to include emergency items on the agenda, approve reports from standing committees, and consider amendments to the union's statutes and rules, as well as follow-up on the implementation of IPU decisions and other resolutions. The Governing Council is set to review the work of the task force responsible for examining proposed amendments to the IPU’s statutes, with a view to approving them, and will also endorse the 2025 unified budget.
